{"id":1288,"date":"2012-11-27T18:25:36","date_gmt":"2012-11-27T23:25:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/navajopeople.org\/blog\/?p=1288"},"modified":"2012-11-27T18:25:36","modified_gmt":"2012-11-27T23:25:36","slug":"art-contest-for-young-navajo-artists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/navajopeople.org\/blog\/art-contest-for-young-navajo-artists\/","title":{"rendered":"Art Contest for Young Navajo Artists"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Monument Valley Hot Air Balloon to Feature\u00a0<\/strong><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><\/strong><strong>Art Contest for Young Navajo Artists<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>WINDOW ROCK, AZ &#8211;\u00a0 Several talented young girls and boys on the Navajo Nation will be the recipient of $500 in mid-December.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/navajopeople.org\/blog\/art-contest-for-young-navajo-artists\/art-contest-for-young-navajo-artists\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1289\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1289\" title=\"Art Contest for Young Navajo Artists\" src=\"http:\/\/navajopeople.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Art-Contest-for-Young-Navajo-Artists-720x468.jpg\" alt=\"Art Contest for Young Navajo Artists\" width=\"720\" height=\"468\" srcset=\"http:\/\/navajopeople.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Art-Contest-for-Young-Navajo-Artists-720x468.jpg 720w, http:\/\/navajopeople.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Art-Contest-for-Young-Navajo-Artists-300x195.jpg 300w, http:\/\/navajopeople.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/Art-Contest-for-Young-Navajo-Artists.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kindergarten through six grade students are encouraged to enter their artwork that will help celebrate the Third Annual Monument Valley Hot Air Balloon on January 11-13, 2013 at Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park.\u00a0 The theme for the third annual event is \u201cSoar and Explore Monument Valley Sky.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Artsco &#8211; the owner of The View Hotel in Monument Valley &#8211; will award $500 for a poster contest winner, $500 for a grand prize winner, and $500 for another category called the Sponsor\u2019s Choice.\u00a0\u00a0 Additionally, Artsco will also present $100 for first place; $50 for second place; and $25 for third place winners in each grade level \u2013 Kindergarten through 12<sup>th<\/sup> grade.<\/p>\n<p>More than 60 students from throughout the Navajo Nation entered the Second Annual Hot Air Balloon event when it was held earlier this year.\u00a0 Armanda Ortega, owner of Artsco, said due to its overwhelming success, they decided to sponsor another art contest in conjunction with the Third Annual Monument Valley Hot Air Balloon Event in January 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Ortega said, \u201cWe are strongly encouraging students from throughout the Navajo Nation to enter their artwork to help promote the hot air balloon event at Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park.\u00a0 We know there are many talented young Navajo youth.\u00a0 We are honored to help support and promote Navajo youth because they are going to be our future leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Artwork can be sent to the attention of Lena Black at Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, P.O.
